Obituary of Vadie Minieva Thornhill
Vadie Minieva Thornhill, 98, passed away peacefully at the Seaside Manor, Canso on Friday, May 19, 2023.
Vadie was born in Canso, September 7, 1924, to the late Robert and Elizabeth (Wood) Snow. Vadie moved to Halifax in 1945 to work at National Sea Products, where she worked until it closed in 1984. She resided in Halifax but spent her holidays and summer months in her hometown. Vadie had a strong faith and was a member of St Theresa’s Parish in Halifax and Star of the Sea Parish in Canso.
Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Gordon Thornhill; brothers Gerald, James, Robert, Raymond; sisters, Margaret (Bond), Jane, and Josephine (Richardson).
Vadie is survived by her brother Wilfred; sisters Alice (Cashin) and Theresa (Boutilier). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Her family is grateful for the doctors and nurses at the Abbey Lane hospital (9th Floor) in Halifax and the Eastern Memorial Hospital in Canso. A special thank you to all the wonderfully caring staff at the Seaside Manor in Canso.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, May 21,2023, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral service will take place on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso with Father Jonathan Nnajiofor officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. A reception will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Canso. Donations in Vadie’s memory can be made to the Star of the Sea Parish Building Fund.
