I regret that I was unable to attend Andy's celebration of life on July 2, 2024, due to my own physical limitations during my recovery from a riding injury. However, having been a boarder at Pinehill Equestrian Centre with Pam & Andy for 23 years, I have a lot of memories!
I've had 3 horses, Spidey (Spyd, aka Blue Express, grey TB x Hanoverian), Nick (Uniquess, chestnut Morab), and Taz (Ben Adhem Ashita, black Arabian mare) under their wonderful care. I took lessons from Andy for all of those years. If my own horse was not rideable at the time, Andy would always find me another horse to ride, thus fueling my own obsession with horses & riding. With Spidey & Nick, I often rode in the early mornings before work, and often shared the arena with Andy riding whoever he was training or showing at the time. He seemed to enjoy seeing how close he could pass us face-to-face, always left-to-left, but almost touching stirrups! If I complained, he'd always say "oh, sorry" and smile!
My horses tended to be a bit on the reactive or "spooky" side, and Andy said that he tried to be careful of that, always waiting until after I dismounted to start the chain saw or whipper-snipper, or to get up on the ladder inside the "new" Pinehill arena (on Leslie Rd, near Lawrencetown Beach). However, one day when I was riding Nick, he started losing his mind, and then I noticed a tree "walking" towards the back of the upper outdoor arena. Yes, it was Andy, walking & carrying a small tree that he was going to plant beside the paddocks. All that was visible was the top of the tree, moving along the fence line. Once Andy came into view, he said, "oh, sorry, I was trying to be quiet so I didn't spook your horse!" and smiled!
With young Spidey, Andy helped me start his dressage training at their first Gaston Rd. stable, giving us lessons and clinics, including one with Libby McMullin. Riding in that arena downhill below the stable could be tricky in the winter, sliding on ice, or at any time, with spooky objects at the end of the arena, or cats jumping out at you over the kickboards. Andy started jumping Spidey there in the outdoor arena, and Spyd seemed to do well at it, until that following winter, when he came in from his group turnout very stiff in his neck. A couple of days later Andy took me & Spyd to the Atlantic Veterinary College for an assessment and X-rays. You have not traveled until you share the cab of a truck pulling an injured horse going to the vet college with Andy. We left at Andy's favourite time to travel, the crack of dawn, 5 a.m., just in time to meet & pass all the school buses on the New Brunswick roads on the way to the bridge to PEI. I had to close my eyes a couple of times. The trip back was a little easier, Spyd having been sedated for procedures, and speed was not required.
As Spyd's riding & showing career was over, Andy paired me up with Nick, who I eventually bought. We started a 12 year training & showing career, mostly in dressage for me, with regular lessons from Andy, and special clinics with various clinicians - Ulrike, John, Elinore, Gillian come to mind. We also showed (& placed 2nd!) in my 1st Event at Redbank Farm. Walking the course with Andy, I realized I had never jumped a downhill jump, nor a tire jump, nor had seen some of these jumps before. However, Nick was an old pro, so Andy said "just stay with Nick, you'll be ok", & we did it!
We went to a lot of shows with Pam & Andy coaching. Hobby Horse, Sarsfields, Lochland, Central Nova (Truro), Fall River and more, I've forgotten them all.
Riding at the old stable on Gaston Rd was always tricky at the beginning of Sept. because of the Shearwater Air Show. Various planes and helicopters would pass directly above the outdoor arena, and in one instance, they circled above the arena for a closer look. It was much more peaceful when Pam & Andy finally finished building and moved the stable to Leslie Rd near the beach. One day Andy gave me a fresh fish that an osprey had dropped in the yard, saying that Pam didn't want him to cook the fish in the house, and that it was a shame to let it go to waste. He was right, it was delicious!
It was a treat in early years to ride with Andy on the rail trail (before they upgraded it to the Atlantic View Trail & banned horses), and up the hill to the left of the beach. It was a grand gallop, and then trot & walk to the edge, but not too close. We also went to the beach near Terminal Head, which was a fun excursion. We also rode out on the logging roads at the end of Leslie Rd., out to the small lakes there (Snow Lake & Goose Lake) after the 2008 Lake Echo wildfire, for some good gallops.
Unfortunately, Andy & Pam's own riding decreased after they each had bad falls, each with a horse in for training. I happened to witness both incidents. However, that didn't stop them from working with their students, and caring for horses, and enjoying the fruits of all their hard labour at their beautiful facility. Andy was always doing something around the property, often with ladders or on the bucket of the tractor. Pam excelled at custom feeding horses. Both were compassionate, kind teachers & coaches. However, the physical upkeep of the large property became too much, so they sold Pinehill and downsized to Cape Breton. They both continued to travel & coach their students until Andy's health worsened.
Some of my favourite memories besides riding with Andy, were the legendary Christmas parties, and the clinician dinners they gave at their house. Andy was always smiling, and willing to talk about horses, sailing, or whatever was happening in the world, with anyone. You could feel the warmth & caring, passion & compassion. And always smiling, that smile. You could see it in his eyes.
Andy will always be remembered. I am grateful that he shared his passion and knowledge of horses with me, and with others. He had a very discerning eye, and I learned a lot from him. I hope that he is able to gallop those horses in the sky! Happy trails, my friend!

I am so proud to have worked for one of the most hard working men in this world. I spent five years working for Andy and Pam at Pinehill Equestrian Centre when they were located in Dartmouth. He and Pam were two of the best bosses that I have ever been fortunate enough to work for. I love you both. Andy will never know the power and strength that he gave me. I still miss all "my" horses. Well, except maybe Kallum, the stud that liked to drag me around.

Sadly, I little knew when I was hailed across the intersection of Spring Garden Road by the Lord Nelson Hotel a few months ago, that I would be visiting with Andy Wadowski for the last time.
This was the man who introduced me to the world of horses, trained me enough to compete respectably, and most of all who would become a friend for the better part of twenty adult years.
Professionally he was an internationally top ranked athlete himself and in training others he passed this ranking on to a couple of his students.
Personally over his life, he was an outstanding example of courage, hard work , intelligence and friendship. It was in all ways a privilege to have known him.
My heartfelt condolences to all those he leaves behind.

Andrzej (Andy) was our great friend since University years. At first we knew about him because he was very skilful horse rider and great athlete, well known in Poland often competing on international level. Our mutual interest in horses becomes a foundation of life lasting friendships. Andy was one of those few people that in the early years of his life had a clear idea what he wanted to do, and a vision how it could be accomplished. He never betrayed his passion for horses at first as a competitive horse rider, then coach of horses and people, he was especially dedicated to coaching children and teenagers. Together with his wife Pamela, they built the impressive stable and arena in a gorgeous scenic spot of Lawrencetown. This place was a creation of unbelievably heard work and many sacrifices. We were so glad to see Andy happily living with such great partner that share with him the same interests and devotion, they were a team made in heaven.
Andy always cherished hard physical work, but he never stop developing he’s coaching skills, also looking for professional contacts to share experiences to know the progress in the field. He liked people and look for contacts, always curious about others experiences and opinions. He stayed in touch with his old friends, and was well informed about Polish politics, kept us updated.
Andy also enjoyed sailing, skiing, swimming, good food and wine in the company of friends. He was passionate about life, our beloved, wonderful friend that we were so lucky to have, and we miss every day.
