Obituary of Joseph Harold Meagher
It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Joseph Harold Meagher, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather announce his unexpected passing at Strait Richmond Hospital in the early hours of Thursday, September 5, 2024.
Joe was born in Descousse, Cape Breton on July 7, 1941 to Mary Helen (Pettipas) of Poirierville and Harold Augustin Meagher of Canso. When he was eight the family moved to Mulgrave. He worked on Fishing draggers as a teenager into his twenties for Acadia Fisheries, Mulgrave. He later worked as a deckhand on supply boats carrying provisions to the offshore oil rigs. Later he was employed by Atomic Energy of Canada Heavy Water Plant until its closure.
Joe was lively, energetic and outspoken. He had a beautiful heart of generosity and wanted to assist others. The beauty of his moral fiber was not always apparent to all and he wasn’t aware of how good he was in his heart but his wife of sixty years, Marlene, knew fully his special beauty of his inner self. His children loved him and will dearly miss him.
Besides his wife, Marlene, Joe is survived by his sisters, Lillian, Angela (Alfred); brothers, Stanley, Wayne, Francis, Leonard (Jeanette); children, Daphne (Terry) Cashin, Port Hawkesbury, Joseph Jr. (Pauline), Grande Prairie, AB, Melanie (Shawn) Turvey, Grand Prairie, AB, Jonathan, Creignish, Julian (Victoria), Mulgrave; grandchildren, Michael, Tara, Maranda, Tyler, Ryan, Cortlin, Josh, Nolan, Leah, Jake, Danielle, Hannah, Meaghan, Johni-Joe, Miley and great grandchildren, Tianna, Ethan, Akirah, Jada, Brooke, Octavia, Jayden and Danny.
Besides his parents Joe was predeceased by his daughters, Scarlette and Julia; sister, Annette; brothers in law, Gordon Baker and John Kelly; two baby brothers, Colin and James and brothers, Hugh and Milton.
A memorial service for Joe will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 770 Hwy 105, Lexington, NS on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. Refreshments to follow for all at Strait Area Evergreen Club, 37 Embree Street, Port Hawkesbury, NS. Everyone is welcome.
